What is digital storytelling to you?
Digital storytelling (to me)?
• short films/videos that convey something useful & meaningful in a story &/or thematic stream.
• social media that consistently convey a useful and meaningful thematic stream.
• video/computer games & virtual worlds that convey a useful & meaningful thematic stream.
digital story/storyteller
digital storyA short, first person video-narrative created by combining recorded voice, still and moving images, and music or other sounds.
digital storyteller Anyone who has a desire to document life experience, ideas, or feelings through the use of story and digital media. Usually someone with little to no prior experience in the realm of video production but time to spend a few days attending a workshop and developing a story with creative support and technical assistance from compassionate, highly experienced facilitators.

How do we (libraries) get to digital stories?
words
What is a Library?
… a collection of information, sources, resources and services, organized for use, and maintained by a public body, an institution, or
a private individual.
-- from Wikipedia
… traditionally thought of as a collection of books used for
reading or study, or the building or room in which such a collection
is kept.
-- from Encyclopedia Britannica
Story …
A tale, a message that tells the particulars of an act or occurrence or course of events; presented in
writing or drama or cinema or as a radio or television program or
(maybe a game/interactive media).
Literacy …
Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create,
communicate and compute, using printed and written materials
associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of
learning to enable an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society.
-- UNESCO
Community …
a group of interacting people living in a common location that is organized around
common values and is attributed with social cohesion within a shared
geographical location, generally in social units larger than a household.
Culture …generally refers to patterns of human
activity and the symbolic structures that give such
activity significance. Anthropologists understand "culture" to refer not only to consumption goods, but to the general processes which produce such goods and give them meaning, and to the social relationships and practices in which such objects
and processes become embedded. The culture includes: technology, art, science, as well as
moral systems.
Technology …is the broad concept that deals with
a species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how that usage and knowledge affects its ability to control and adapt to an environment. However, a strict definition is elusive; "technology" can refer to material
objects of use to humanity, such as machines, hardware or utensils, but can also encompass broader themes, including systems, methods
of organization, and techniques.
