What is color?Color is the byproduct of the spectrum of

light, as it is reflected or absorbed, as received by the human eye and processed by the human brain.

What is color theory? Color Theory is the art of mixing

colors to achieve desired effects. The way colors are combined can be used to create different feelings and responses. A common way to explain the relationships of the different colors is to display them in a color wheel.

Types of color theory :

There are three types of color theory

1. Trichromatic Theory / Ternary combination2. Additive Theory (Light theory)3. Subtractive Theory (pigment theory)

Trichromatic Theory / Ternary . combination : (RYB)

All colors are made of three primary color. Thus primary color is…..

Red yellow and Blue

Color Theory

Page 11: Different color theory

Additive Theory :(RGB)

In which color is produced by mixing of colored light. For this primary color is….

Red Green and Blue.

Subtractive / pigment Theory :

Which theory is used for coloring any types of Fiber, Yarn, or Fabric.

The primary color is Red, Yellow and Blue OR Cyan, Yellow and Magentas.

There are three families of colors:

1. Primary color2. Secondary color3. Tertiary color

Color Theory

Families of colors:

Page 16: Different color theory

Primary Colors: Primary colors are not mixed from other

elements and they generate all other colors.

Color Theory

Red Yellow Blue

Page 17: Different color theory

Secondary Colors:By mixing two primary colors, a secondary color is created.Primary + Primary = SecondaryExample:

Color Theory

Red + Yellow = Orange Yellow+ Blue = Green Blue+ Red = Violet

Page 18: Different color theory

Intermediate or Tertiary Colors :

Intermediate or Tertiary colors are created by mixing a primary and a secondary color .

Primary + secondary = TertiaryExample:

Color Theory

red-orange yellow-orange yellow-green blue-green blue-Violet red-Violet

Neutral Colors: Neutrals are colors without

hue. The neutral colors contain equal parts of

each of the three primary colors. Black, white, gray and sometimes brown

are considered "neutral”.

White Gray Black

Color terms :

1. Color Wheel2. Color Values3. Color Schemes

Color Theory

Page 23: Different color theory

The Color Wheel:The color wheel fits together

like a puzzle - each color in a specific place. Being familiar with the color wheel not only helps you mix colors when painting, but in adding color to all your art creations.

Color Theory

Page 24: Different color theory

Color Values:Color values are the lightness and darkness of a color

you create by using black and white (‘neutrals”) with a color. This makes hundreds of more colors from the basic 12 colors of the wheel.

white + color = tint color + black = shade

Color Schemes:

Color Schemes are a systematic way of using the color wheel to put colors together… in your art work, putting together the clothes you wear, deciding what colors to paint your room…..

Color Mixing:

Color mixing means to mix the different color (colored substance or colored light)

Color Mixing

Types of color Mixing

There are two types of color mixing

Color Mixing

1. Additive mixing2. Subtractive mixing

Page 30: Different color theory

Additive mixing:

Additive mixing of colors generally involves mixing colors of light. In additive mixing of colors there are three primary colors: red, green, and blue

Subtractive mixing

Subtractive mixing of colors generally involves mixing colors of light. In Subtractive mixing of colors there are three primary colors: Yellow, Magenta and Cyan..
