Difference between L1 & L2 speakers

• L1 speakers there can be wide variations in the degree of fluency that individuals demonstrates.

Key factors that can contribute to a lack of L2 fluency

• Shortage of opportunities for practice.• Lack of confidence• Acute sense of anxiety when it

comes to speaking.• Lack of genuine speaking

Like L1 speaker, L2 speakers also produces speech through process of conceptualizing, then formulating, and finally articulating.

Monitor Overusers:

• Students are having trouble distributing their attentional capacity between planning and articulation.

• Their anxiety is causing excessive self-monitoring.

Strategic Competence

• A person’s ability to keep communication going when there is a communication breakdown or to enhance the effectiveness of the communication.• (e.g. spoke both languages at once)
