business and assumes all the risk and reward of a given business venture, idea, or good or service offered for sale. The entrepreneur is commonly seen as a business leader and innovator of new ideas and business processes.

About Indra Nooyi Earned her Bachelor’s in physics, chemistry and mathematics from

Madras Christian College in 1974. MBA, IIM-Calcutta, 1976. Master of Public and Private Management, Yale University, 1980Married to Raj Nooyi; has two daughters, Preetha and Tara Earned $12.6 million last year.

Indra K. Nooyi is the president and chief financial officer of PepsiCo. Best known for its Pepsi soft drinks.

The international powerhouse that Nooyi oversees is actually one of the world's largest snack-food companies. It makes and sells dozens of other products, including Doritos-brand chips, the Tropicana juice line, and Quaker Oats cereals

Typical characteristics of Indra Nooyi Nooyi is one of the top female executives in the United States,

and is also believed to be the highest-ranking woman of Indian heritage in corporate America.

Nature of Indra Nooyi Nooyi is fully aware of the company’s bottom line but she is also

focused on operating a business that has a positive impact on society.

“Performance with purpose approach”-Human sustainability, environmental sustainability and workforce development

“Aspiring CEOs have to understand they are signing up for a lot more than CEOs did in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and even four or five years ago,” she said in the interview.

Titbits of her advice Focus on the long term: Nooyi stated the notion of focusing on

short-term earnings is a thing of the past.

Think globally and act locally: Businesses that have customers in different markets across the world need to tailor products, business models, and people practices to each market.

Become more open-minded: CEOs have to become learning CEOs, she said. They need to continue to adopt the next leadership principles and learn about technology and the younger generations.

Develop emotional intelligence: Nooyi is an advocate of emotional intelligence. She said the way to hold on to employees is by hooking them emotionally to the job, through the company’s business model and what it stands for.

About Karsanbhai Patel Karsanbhai Khodidas was born in 1945, in Ruppur village in north

Gujarat in a family of farmers. He graduated in Chemistry at the age of 21. Initially, he worked as a lab technician and later served the state Government.

Nirma was made of an innovative formulation, which global detergent giants were later on compelled to emulate, it was phosphate free and hence environment friendly, and the process of manufacturing was labor intensive, which offered large scale employment.

Development Council for Oils, Soaps & Detergents. Karsanbhai was awarded an “Honorary Doctorate” by Florida Atlantic University, recognizing his exceptional entrepreneurial and philanthropic accomplishments.

Achievement of Nirma The company that was started in 1969 with just one man,

who used to deliver his product from one house to the other, today employs around 14 thousand people and has a turnover of more than $ 500 million. In 2004 Nirma’s annual sales were as high as 800000 tones. According to Forbes in 2005 Karsanbhai Patel’s net worth was $ 640 million.
