When we read, our overall goal is to monitor our understanding and make sure that we are getting meaning from the printed page.

This comprehension monitoring is a process that is critical for students to develop, and it is one which students often overlook.

Encouraging the students to monitor understanding and use strategies while reading is a critical gift that will provide benefits throughout life.

Talking about what you read is another way to help students to develop language and thinking skills. You won't need to plan the talk, discuss every story, or expect an answer.

Assign a small, interesting book to students every day/week/month, and the students get to choose their book individually. At the end of the time chosen by you AND the students, the students tell their classmates the summary of the story/book. You should emphasis to the students not to take this as a Homework, but to make it interesting to them.

Include reading in their school day?? We should make a small amount of time from, for example, Arabic or Social studies, and students can read their little books. It is also a great way to make school a little bit interesting to students.
