When we read, our overall goal is to monitor our understanding and make sure that we are getting meaning from the printed page.

This comprehension monitoring is a process that is critical for students to develop, and it is one which students often overlook.

Encouraging the students to monitor understanding and use strategies while reading is a critical gift that will provide benefits throughout life.

Talking about what you read is another way to help students to develop language and thinking skills. You won't need to plan the talk, discuss every story, or expect an answer.

Writing and drawing help the students to become a better reader. Some students love to be creative when it comes to drawing, and illustrations add visual imagery to stories.

Cooking is always a delight for some students, especially when they can eat the results!

It's important to read to the students, but equally important to listen to them read to you. Students thrive on having someone appreciate their developing skills.

Let the students read books that have famous cartoon characters in it or let them read about the video games the play.

Playing this kind of games help students to learn new word which will improve their reading skills.

Assign a small, interesting book to students every day/week/month, and the students get to choose their book individually. At the end of the time chosen by you AND the students, the students tell their classmates the summary of the story/book. You should emphasis to the students not to take this as a Homework, but to make it interesting to them.

Include reading in their school day?? We should make a small amount of time from, for example, Arabic or Social studies, and students can read their little books. It is also a great way to make school a little bit interesting to students.
