Selecting Materials
“Materials should not be just an assemblage of distinct vocabulary item and structure, but a heaving, swirling, dynamic whole, the means
by which men, women and children communicate with each other.”
(Richards & Rodgers;1985)
Materials compiled through discussions and consultationswith teachers. And English grammar books used as well as information and suggestions since grammar is the main problem for EFL learners
Choosing Software
Asymetrix Multimedia ToolBook 3.0
Hypermedia system
Supported by texts, graphics and visual illustrations combined with audio and video
Mainly run on PCs (IBM)
Determining Tasks
Tasks should be provided to stimulate interaction between user and computer
“In CALL program, tasks presented in the form of a set of exercises following
material presentation section, and learners are asked to practice doing
them.”
Designing Structure of Program
The Structure of program consists of 3 parts:
Tutorial
Material
Exercises
Feedback during student practice is a fundamental component of well- designed computer assisted instruction.
A call program is one of effective ways in English language teaching and learning due to its effectiveness in assisting students to learn independently and get a better self confidence in learning English.
Initial planning, determining objectives, choosing types of programs, selecting materials, choosing software, determining tasks and designing structure of program are some steps in developing CALL.
5 principles in developing CALL, they are interactivity, usability, content appropriateness, effectiveness and performance.
