• Dear William,– The XYZ Affair is going well. We have sent out agents to France that have been classified

as X, Y, and Z. Back in the US the Federalists are going insane. They want me to declare war with France. So me being president, I requested our armies size to increase and rebuild our navy.. In 1789 our navy fought a naval war with France. I then to avoid war, sent a new mission to France. When this mission arrived., France’s Dictator Napoleon Bonaparte agreed to seize American ships because he was busy with another war in Europe.

Alien and Sedition Acts

• The alien act was made up of immigrants. It made the time of live in the US from 5 years to 14 in order to become an official US citizen. The President thus gains the power to deport or imprison any immigrant he found dangerous.

• The sedition act was made up of Republicans. Sedition is an activity designed to overthrow a government. This act made it illegal to write or say any false information about President, congress, or the government. Most Republicans were editors and printers. Between 1798 and 1799, 10 people were convicted under this act.
