Mark Newlands, International Sector Head, Technology & Engineering

Scottish Development International

Mark is the International Sector Head responsible for Technology & Engineering, Creative

Industries and Sustainable Construction. He has worked with SDI for 7 years and prior to

taking up this position Mark was International Sector Head for Education.

This role involves leading the Trade and Investment teams for these areas to growth the

export potential for the sector and to bring new investment to Scotland.

Brian Parrott, Senior Trade Commissioner

High Commission of Canada, UK

Brian has extensive experience in international commerce, policy analysis related to

economic development, trade promotion and investment attraction activities. He is

currently Minister-Counsellor and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian High

Commission in London. In that capacity he and his team are responsible for promoting

Canada’s commercial interests in the U.K. Prior to his most recent Ottawa assignment

as Director Investment Services (2006-2010), he was Canada’s Senior Trade

Commissioner in Seattle, Washington (2002-2006).

Brian previously served as Trade Program Manager, in the Canadian Embassy in

Tokyo, Japan (1997-2002). He has developed and implemented CIDA programs for collaboration on

environmental and regulatory reform in South America, and has undertaken international development work in

Asia and South America. Brian began his career in the British Columbia provincial government, and served as

Assistant Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines. He has worked in the private sector as a lobbyist and

environmental project manager for the mining and resource sector.

About High Commission of Canada

The Commercial/Economic Division of the Canadian High Commission in London offers practical assistance

regarding trade, investment, science & technology initiatives with Canada. This includes; helping companies

identify Canadian partners and capabilities, providing free and confidential services to companies interested in

Gordon McClymonth, Director Supply Management

Jacobs Engineering

After studying Contract Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University, Gordon began

working for Jacobs UK in 1991, serving a number of positions before being appointed the

Western Region Director of Supply Management based in Calgary, Canada in 2009.

Mr. McClymont (Globalscot) has been responsible for opening doors and for providing

general guidance on how SDI can best develop its networks and opportunities in

Canada.

Vanessa McMinn, Associate

Vanessa is an Associate in the Corporate / Commercial and Global Mining practice

groups. Vanessa practices business law and has acted for private and public companies

in connection with corporate financings and M&A transactions, including initial public

offerings, short form prospectus offerings, debt offerings, and business combinations.

Vanessa also advises on general corporate and commercial transactions, share and

asset purchases, corporate reorganizations and internal corporate matters. In addition,

Vanessa has advised public companies with respect to continuous disclosure obligations

under securities laws, corporate governance practices, and the rules and policies of the

Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange.

Vanessa graduated with a J.D. from the University of Toronto and joined Fasken Martineau in October of

2012.
