1798 - THOMAS MALTHUSTHOMAS MALTHUS– Malthusian theory in Essay on Population

– Food increases arithmetically; population increases geometrically.

– There will be fighting for food and water by the year 1900.

• Therefore, unmitigated population growth would result in hunger and famine.

• To avoid this, there must be population control.

THE ANTI-NATALIST PROPAGANDISTS

1930 – MARGARET SANGERMARGARET SANGER– Founder of Planned Parenthood

• Established first birth control clinic in Harlem – Human weeds, useless eaters, less children from the unfit, right to destroy, freedom of choice

1967 – PAUL EHRLICHPAUL EHRLICH– Wrote the Population Bomb

• Predicted that there would food shortage by 1975 and that many would die from the coming famine.

• “ In the 1970’s and 1980’s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death”

• Predicted that one fifth of the human race would die of starvation in 1985

• Recommended dumping of chemicals in the water supply to control population

Page 4: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

1974 – NSSM 200NSSM 200 (National Security Study (National Security Study Memorandum) Memorandum)

POPCOM – was established by Pres. Marcos in 1972. Then Pop Ed was required in all schools.

ICPD – or the International Conference on Population and Development held in Cairo last August 1994 sponsored by UN made a declaration signed by 176 countries including RP forcing every country to implement reproductive health programs.

PLCPD – established in 1998, an NGO named as the Philippine Legislators Committee on Population and Development currently headed by Biazon (Senate) and Acosta (Congress) is tasked to pursue the anti-family and anti-life agenda of ICPD and the force behind HB 3773. Philippine 1987 Constitution states in

Art. II Sec. 12 – The State recognizes the sanctity of family life and shall protect and strengthen the family as a basic autonomous social institution.

It shall equally protect the life of the mother and of the unborn from conception. The natural and primary right and duty of the parents in the rearing of youth for civic efficiency and the development of moral character shall receive the support of the government.

Page 10: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

WARNING!The current moves to revise our Philippine Constitution in their desire to change our present form of government is very dangerous. In the process called Con-Ass, all pro-life and pro-family provisions securely in-placed in the Constitution might be deleted.

At the same time, we have also to be assured that the four key personalities of this republic; the President, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Senate President and the Speaker of the Lower House must be pro-life.

Page 11: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

Population Controllers and Fallacy-makers (Government & Foreign Agencies) say that:

1) Our Population Growth Rate (PGR) is very high (2.36%) so

that it negates the growth in the economy

2) Catholic church is responsible for high Population Growth Rate in the country

3) Population will double in 29 years (from 84M to 162M)

4) The country is overpopulated

5) Overpopulation is the cause of our poverty.

Page 12: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

There are just four (4) basic things we have to know and learn to counter the ravaging “lies & deception” of our enemies

who constantly bombarded us with WRONG data, using the very powerful media, government bureaus and learning

institutions.

First. The actual Population Growth Rate or PGR in our country.

Second. The present Total Fertility Rate or TFR among our women,

Third. The Total Land Area or TLA of the Philippines, and

Fourth. The blatant reasons why this republic remained poor

No. 3. Is the Philippines really overpopulated as the doomsayers claim?

Population density = population/area in square km.

Year 2006 84,043,000 / 300,000 sq.km.

= 280 Pinoys per sq.km.

* If you consider that 8-9M Filipinos who are working overseas, the population density would even be much less

As of 2005: Life Expectancy ave: 71 y.o. Male : 68 y.o., Female: 75 y.o

1.1. Bad governance and Bad Economic PoliciesBad governance and Bad Economic Policies

a. Internal • crime and corruption, • heavy burden of foreign debt, • Inadequate spending on health and education,• unmitigated smuggling• no peace and order,• Inconsistent trade policies

Page 19: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

b. Externalb. External

Globalization which results in: • Job Reduction• Closure of companies

Trade and financial arrangements which work against developing countries

• Population control advocates like Malthus and Ehrlich claim that we cannot produce enough food to feed the growing population

• We currently feed all six billion people using only 4% of our grain production capacity.

• If 33% of our capacity will be used, we could feed 50 billion people.

PROBLEM :Aging and ultimately declining population

Or 2,000 inhabitants per square kilometer. Metro 2,000 inhabitants per square kilometer. Metro Manila is not overpopulated but Manila is not overpopulated but OVER-CROWDEDOVER-CROWDED

5. Uneven or Unequal Distribution of Wealth5. Uneven or Unequal Distribution of Wealth

Over 80% of the country’s wealth are owned and controlled by just over 500 families. The best example is the vast sugar plantations in Negros, Panay & northern Cebu but which are owned by just a handful number of families.

Page 23: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

6. GRAFT and CORRUPTIONGRAFT and CORRUPTION

World Bank confirmed in their studies said, “for every 1Peso that every taxpayer pays,50% or 50 centavos goes to corruption”. COA says approximately the combined gov’t money lost to corruption from 1972 to 2002 is Two (2) Trillion pesos.

Page 24: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

• Of the 225 countries, 95 countries have aging and/or irreversible population

• Of the population of over 6B only 1B are women capable of bearing children.

• Of these 635M or 63% are contracepting with over 150M permanently sterilized.

Immediate Solutions:

1. Increase birth rates – STOP all forms of artificial forms of birth control. Make sure abortion & gay marriages remained illegal.

2. Delay retirement of employees. This will minimize labor problem and the danger of bankruptcy of Pension Funds. US – 1950 – 16.50 Employees to 1 retiree 1990 – 3.3 Employees to 1 retiree. Italy 2005, 3 employees to 1 retiree.

3. Replacement migration – developed countries get workers from developing countries

Page 25: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

What must we do?What must we do?1. Take advantage of our demographic profile

Page 26: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

2. Strengthen our families and bring about moral regeneration

Page 27: Debunking The Overpopulation Myth

3. Reject population control and throw back the burden of reducing poverty to the politicians. Let them render good governance.

4. Install Natural Family Planning Centers in every parish nationwide. And teach Abstinence Education to the schools.
