What’s On Today?
Today I’d like to talk to you about 2 main points. A lot has changed in the 20+ years since the internet was first developed – so the information we tell you needs to keep up to date
Cybersafety – 2 main parts – keeping your information safe and keeping your computer safe.
Do you have either of these?
How safe is your profile?Who can see your pictures?
How many of you have ever been to the privacy settings page? You should protect who sees what on MSN and Facebook (and other social networking sites)Think about what people need to see things? Think about what friends of Friends really means
Remember if I can see your photo/video/status update I can take a copy of it
Please think before you upload images. In recent studies it’s been found that most problems occur because children don’t think about the consequences of sharing their details, images, videos etc online.
You should also remember this when you are sharing your stuff on mobile phone.
My rule of thumb – if I wouldn’t want my Nanna to see it then doesn’t belong on the internet.

Safe
How many people have their computers on all the time at home?Does your computer have a firewall active? This protects your computer from letting people from outside your home access your computer over the internet.
Do you have anti-virus software installed on your computer? How often is it updated? Virus updates come out daily for most commercial products. There are also free anti-virus options that are good if you don’t want to pay for this valuable service. Every computer you use needs to have antivirus software as it only takes one computer to let in a virus.
Do you run the software updates as they come into your computer? Research shows that maintaining the most up-to-date version of your software will get rid of 90% of virus opportunities – viruses exploit known problems in your software. Update software to remove these opportunities.
Cyber-bullying
Cyber-bullying is "the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behaviour by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others”

Why do adults focus on this so much?
• Cyber-bullying is Bullying• 24/7 – it follows you home• Anonymous• Unintentional – “I was just being funny”
The very nature of cyber bullying is that it’s on your phone, on your computer, in your bedroom. Most victims feel as though there is no escape. Add that to the fact that most people who do this can also very easily set up anonymous accounts.
In other instances people have inadvertently started something by “trying to be funny” unfortunately things can very quickly spiral out of control.
