Narrative structures

The narrative of Cyber bully is a linear structure as it starts with Casey talking to her friend from her bedroom with the action unfolding in chronological order as the story progresses through out.

Page 4: Cyber bully

Technical• Camera: a close up was used in the scene of Cyberbully when Casey was on Skype talking to

the hacker. This extreme close up shows her reaction and emotions to what is being said; that Casey is getting scared because of all the blackmail and threats and her realisation that she is partly responsible for Jennifer Li’s death. The shallow focus is on her face, this draws the audience attention to focus on just her face and makes it feel more intense.

• Lighting: Low key lighting is also used in this scene to shows the mood set in this scene, the lighting is quite dark, this is to represent a sad depressing mood.

Page 5: Cyber bully

Technical• Sound: a varies of different sounds is used in this to represents the mood, for an

example in one of the scene where Casey is being forced to swallows the pills, you can hear a non-diegetic sound of rushing sound, this is to tense up the audience excitement for what to comes next. Another non-diegetic sound is used when Casey was about to be sick, the sound was a slow sad melody tune, this is to tell the audience that something bad is about to happens next.

• Editing: quick pace editing was used to show Casey’s reaction towards her messages from the hacker, it was used to show how she feels about them messages.

now vulnerable. Hacker calls Casey a cyberbully, Casey says they’re a hypocrite for saying this. Casey also realises that it was the hacker who sent the initial tweet, not her ex boyfriend.

• Climax – Hacker gets Casey to confess that she was a bully, he also blackmailed her in taking her medication. As Casey takes pills the hacker posted her and her friend pictures online even though they said they wouldn’t.

• Falling action – Casey realises the language used links to a tweet she had seen earlier. Her father shouts that Megan is on the phone, she has a realisation that her real identity is more important than her online identity. She breaks free from the hacker then open the door to calls for help from her father.
