This is the best way for all of us to work
together to build and complete a project.
A constellation is a group of stars that, when a line is drawn through each star in the constellation, a shape is formed.
These shapes were given names depending on what the shape appeared to look like to the person who was looking. Sometimes it may take a little imagination to see the connection.
Giving names to the constellations made it easier to track the patterns they made in the sky as they moved during the year.
By locating the position of a constellation at a certain time of year, people long ago were able to know when to plant and when to harvest their crops. Using constellations in this way made agriculture more dependable.
It is thought that objects such as Stonehenge in England and even the Pyramids of Egypt were used in this way to predict the changing seasons depending on where a constellation appeared in the sky.
In this lesson we will be learning about identifying different constellations
We will be looking at the constellations and then recreating them in some way.
For ideas in creating constellations, we will use Pinterest. This is the best tool because it has a variety of student friendly options.
When you decide on your project, make
sure you include 3-5 constellations
You can use food, stickers or anything you
would like.
Have fun and be creative!
For this lesson, you will work either alone
or with a partner to create a new
constellation and a story about it.
Check the list to see who you are working
with. If you would like to work alone,
please let me know.
Use the legends of Orion as a guide.
Make sure you include the original design,
an animated drawing and the written story.
In your story include how the legend came
to be.
The story should be completed using Word
and be 1-2 pages.
You may use Power Point or Go!
Animation for your drawing. Be sure to
include a reasoning for why you chose the
one you did and enough information about
your constellation that anyone can look at
it and understand.
In this lesson we are going to learn about
the job astronomers perform
You will be researching online and
presenting your information
Choose one aspect of Astronomers to
work on.
For this lesson we will be using Prezi to present our information
This is the best way to for you to share what you have learned with your classmates.
Be sure to include pictures, information and any tools or instruments needed for the job.
For our final assignment, we will be putting
everything we learned into a project.
You will be picking some things to show off

Your assignment is to create a Power Point
Presentation.
Include 10-15 slides
Three Constellations
A brief history
A brief overview of Astronomers job
Anything else you want to share
