Original Task: Work through a multi-step word problem. Show your work.

SUBSTITUTIONStudents use a note-taking software to record work as they complete the math problem.

AUGMENTATIONShare notes digitally to allow students to check each other’s work and provide feedback for homework.

MODIFICATIONUse examples of classmates’ word problems to collaboratively create their own word problems based on a real-word situation in their community, home, or school, and solve as a group.

REDEFINITIONUse a sketchnoting software to illustrate each step of the word problem in addition to showing their work at each step. The creation of the sketchnote can be recorded and narrated to create a markerboard-style video, which can be posted and shared online.

Original Task: Present to the class about a city in foreign country.

AUGMENTATIONDesign a brochure for chosen city using MS Brochure with links & embedded content.

MODIFICATIONTransform the travel brochure into a guide that incorporates multimedia and student collaboration, including video and student narration.

REDEFINITIONUse Google Earth to promote the viability of the location as a tourist destination. Include interviews with residents or visitors of the location via Skype and data from social media to validate claims. Research ways to book travel to this location and include the options in the final guide.

related issue

AUGMENTATIONUse some features, such as the Thesaurus, Spell Check, Copy/paste, etc., to enhance the writing. Also search online for additional facts on the topic not found in the textbook, and cite all sources.

MODIFICATIONSearch online for related images and create a slideshow to accompany the article, including hyperlinks to the images’ source websites for more information.

REDEFINITIONStudents record themselves reading the article, add background music as a soundtrack, add the audio to accompany the slideshow, and post to the school website to share with the community.
