Context

• la Mauritanie compterait 3 437 610 habitants en 2013 pour une densité de 3,3 h./km² avec une population urbaine avoisinant les 42%. Le taux d’accroissement naturel de la population en 2012 est de 2,41% l’espérance de vie à la naissance en 2013 est de 61,91 ans (effort non négligeable dans l’amélioration de l’accès des populations aux services essentiels de base.

• Environ 60% de la population vivent de l’agriculture ou de l’élevage (SDSR, 2012) dont :

• Plus que 60 % tributaires de l’agro-pastoralisme familial. Ce groupe comprend les éleveurs traditionnels, les agriculteurs à faible statut foncier et les agro-pasteurs qui utilisent une grande partie de leur production pour assurer la vie de la famille ;

• Entre 5 et 10% actifs dans l’agro-business. Ce groupe a une production axée sur la commercialisation ;

• Entre 10 et 15% travaillant dans le secteur secondaire et tertiaire en tant que transformateurs, distributeurs, transporteurs, financiers, etc. ;

• Au moins 20 % sans accès aux moyens de production (terre, bétail) et ne justifiant pas d’un travail régulier ou travaillant en tant qu’ouvriers, bergers ou pour d’autres tâches.
