SOUTH AFRICA: SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa is a popular tourist destination; among the main

attractions are the diverse and picturesque culture, the game

reserves and the highly regarded wines.

South Africa boasts a range of cultural, historical, archaeological and geological sites that are protected under the UNESCO World Heritage Site project. We have sites like:

- Robben Island - Voortrekker Monument

The country is ranked sixth out of the world's seventeen megadiverse countries. Numerous mammals are found in the bushveld including lions, leopards, white rhinos, blue wildebeest, kudus, impalas, hyenas, hippopotamus and giraffes.

A significant extent of the bushveld exists in the north-east including Kruger National Park and the Mala Mala Reserve, as well as in the far north in the Waterberg Biosphere. South Africa houses many endemic species, among them the critically endangered Riverine Rabbit (Bunolagus monticullaris) in the Karoo.

With more than 20000 species, South Africa is particularly rich in plant diversity. Also, the total number of fungi which occur in South Africa was conservatively estimated at about 200,000 species. South African art includes the oldest art objects in the world,

which were discovered in a South African cave, and dated from

75,000 years ago.

South Africa is also a special touristic destination based on some majored

events hosted by the country like the FIFA World Cup 2010. It is also an

attraction for sport tourists especially people which love Rugby, Cricket and

Golf.
