DEFINITION OF CONTROL
Control refers to the process employed to meet standards.
Process involves observing performance, compairing it with some standard, and then taking action if the observed performance is significantly different from the standard.
4
Maintain the gains from improvement projects.
Promote analysis of process variation, based on data, to identify improvement opportunities.
Allow team members to clarify their responsibilities and work to achieve a state of self control.
PURPOSE OF CONTROL PROCESS:
5
STEPS INVOLVED IN CONTROL PROCESS:
Choose the control subject
Establish measurement
Establish standards of performance
Measure actual performance
Compare actual measured performance to standards
Take action on the difference
6
Universal sequence applies to individuals at all levels from the Chief Executive officer to members of workforce.
First Three steps i.e.1. Choose the subject2. Establish Measurement and 3. Establish Standard - Require the participation of the department work team. The last Three steps i.e. 1. Measure Actual Performance2. Compare to Standard3. Take Action - Can be the responsibility of department work team.
SELF CONTROL:
Is a universal concept, applicable to a general manager responsible for running a company division at a profit, a plant manager responsible for meeting the various goals set for that plant, a technician running a chemical reactor.
Self control is- - knowledge of what people are supposed to do. - knowledge of performance. - means of regulating a process. - primary emphasis before execution. 7
8
Parameters Of Self Control:
1.Knowledge of what they are supposed to do. 2.Knowledge of their performance. 3.Means of regulating performances.
If all the three parameters have been met, the person is said to be stage of self-control and can properly be held responsible for any deficiencies in performance.
9
CLASSICAL CONTROL & SELF CONTROL:
CLASSICAL CONTROL SELF CONTROL
Standard or goal Knowledge of what people are supposed to do.
Measurement Knowledge of performance
Action on the Difference Means of regulating a process
Primary emphasis during execution
Primary emphasis before execution
10
THE CONTROL SUBJECTS FOR QUALITY: The Control Subjects For Quality are the critical
parameters.
These are the managerial quality control subjects.
These are mainly the performance goals for organisation and are associated with managers.
11
Principles of Control Subjects For Quality:
Quality control subjects should be aligned and linked with customer parameters.
i.e. measures the customers needs, satisfaction and measures the product and process features.
Control Subjects For Quality means work process in terms of objectives, process steps, process customers, and customer needs.
12
Quality Control Subjects should recognize both components of definition of quality i.e. free from deficiencies and product features.
Potential Quality Control Subjects can be indentified by obtaining ideas from both customers and employees.
Customers can be asked, “How do you evaluate the product or service that you receive from me ?”
13
MEASUREMENT OF QUALITY: Quality measurement is central to the process of quality
control i.e.in this we have to decide what we have measure.
Measurements provides feedback and early warnings of problems, for operational quality planning.
Measurement quantifies customer needs and product and process capabilities.
For quality improvement, measurement can motivate people, prioritize, and help in diagnosis causes.
Measurement process input for setting goals and later supplies the data for performance review.
14
UNITS OF MEASUREMENTS:
To quantify, we must create a system of measurement consisting of:
A unit of measure: the unit used to report the value of a control subject is pounds, seconds, dollars etc.
A sensor: a method or instrument that can carry out the evaluation and state the findings in terms of the unit of measure.
15
CONCLUSION:
Control is the process we employ to standards. Control involves a universal sequence of steps: choosing the
control subjects, choosing a unit of measurement, setting a goal ,creating a sensor, measuring performanc, interpriting difference between actual performance and the goal, and taking action on the difference.
Self control involves three elements:1. People must have knowledge of what they are supposed to
do2. knowledge of their performance3. and means of regulating their performance.
