Contrast and Compare Essay–Science friction films

(Robocop and Avatar)

Nowadays, people like to watch movies for entertainment especially the young. They like

to watch movies with their friends together which they feel more enjoyable and fun. So,

they will go to the cinema or watching DVD at home by using laptop or television. It was

many different type of movies, frictional movies is the type of movie that I feel most

interesting. The creation of new fictional characters in media every year has always

been attractive to the public. There are two films that i feel most interest are Robocop

and Avatar. They have an acquired massive fans base. With all of the fan wars the

power of characters and their secret identities which are so attract my gaze. There are

some differences between this two movies although they are in the same genre.

First, the events happened in both films are totally different. In Robocop, the

incident took place in the earth that was Detront Michigan. The city unable to secure a

bailout so the city council is forced to denationalize the police force. The rights were

bought by Omni Consumer Products, they wanted to replace them with commercial enforcers as

part of the "Delta City" project. The police refuse the business, so the company moves to test.

The first, a bipedal combat droid codenamed ED-209, is rejected after it kills an armed

management by mistake. The second, a cyborg police officer impending by marketing expert Bob

Morton, is accepted. The Robocop is been create. In the other hand, the incident in Avatar took

place outside the Earth which was on a densely forested habitable moon orbiting the gas gaint

Polyphemus in the Alpha Centauri star system called Pandora. Humans almost finish the

sources in the Earth, so have to discovery severe energy predicament by 2154. The Resources

Development Administration (RDA) collieries for some valuable mineral was unobtanium on

Pandora. So, the humans have some strategy to get it.

Besides that, let talk about Robocop. In another hand, the scientific-field involved in Robocop was mostly physical science and technology. Alex Murphy was converted into Robocop which is a machine with the objectives of protecting the innocent, upholding the law, and defending the public interest. Robocop goes on to singlehandedly purge Detroit of crime, earning Morton praise and a promotion, but his memory was erasure by the company and he just killing the criminal. However, the scientific-field involved in Avatar is different. It was mostly life science and biology. The scientist used Na’vi-human hybric which is “avatar”, worked by genetically matched human with investigate the pairing and converting human’s DNA. Jake Sully in order to

explore Pandora’s biosphere. In conclusion, avatar could be said as a remotely positioned body, a biological body. Then they started to acquire the valuable minerals. Moreover, the cultures between both films are different. In the films Robocop, it mostly about the technology of the company and the police culture. It talked about the Invention of Robocop and how the Robocop wiped out the criminal by using the power of the machine. Unlike Avatar was an incarnation of Hindu god taking a flesh form. The human technology in the future is capable of inserting a human’s aptitude into a remotely located body means that in our future the science technology can make a gigantic changes to the humans and the world. Lastly, both of them show different relationship among their characters. Robocop showed a family relationship. Alex Murphy is mortally wounded in a car bombing; and accident that destroys most of the Detroit cop’s body. An old man Dr. Dennett Norton, an

OCP employee on a deadline to deliver an up-to-spec and on-time cybernetic cop. Dr. Dennett Norton gets his chance on convert Alex to the Robocop make Alex can have a technical body to live normally even made him to be a more powerful cop. They felt thankful to each other and their relation like father and son. In the other hand, Avatar showed a lover relationship between Neytiri and Jake in the films. It applied a star-crossed love came from totally different cultures that were contemptuous of their relationship and forced them choose between the competing communities. Jake started to adapt and learn about their habit and life-style attentively.

In the conclusion, although both of them are science-friction films Robocop and avatar

have a lots of differences at themes, story, events, characteristic and others. Their stories,

characters, specific event were so attract my minds. Science frictional movies is a literary

genre movie that makes imaginative use of scientific knowledge or conjecture. Its make the

imagination of humans came true unbelievable. For an example, long time ago the humans

did not believe that we have the opportunity to arrive the Moon, but we did it by invention the

rocket. So, I have a faith and believe that the event at the Robocop and Avatar will be

happens one day in the future. Lastly, both of them are my favourite movies and make me

watch them numerous. I also bought the DVD of both of them back home to watch them

when my leisure time as well.
