Continuity.
The importance of continuity in T.V and filmContinuity in makeup artistry when it comes to T.V and film is paramount. This is because it will keep the look of the actor/actress the same for a scene that would have to be filmed over a time period of days. As a makeup artist it is important that you can keep the look of the actor the same despite factors such as time, location and weather conditions. This is because the audience will be expecting the character to look the same in the scene, regardless of backstage elements.
The importance of continuity in T.V and Film Without continuity the audience would be able to see a difference in the looks of the characters. Continuity allows the production to flow. For example the audience would not expect a character to have scratches on one side of their face and messy hair one second, for this to be different the next. It is important to remember that although you may be creating the look over a long time period, the audience will most likely see that character in the same scene and in a matter of minutes, therefore they will need to look exactly the same.
Tips to help you with continuity. Keep face charts for each individual look.Keep a list of products that you need for that particular day and look, it is also a good idea to prepare these before, this way you know exactly what products you need and do not waste time looking through your kit. Take photos and notes each time you create the look, this way you will have something to look back at that shows you exactly what the finished outcome should be.
Health and safety throughout my assessment • Health and safety is important when creating any look. Before starting I ensured that all brushes have been cleaned properly after the previous use as this would prevent the spread of bacteria. Then I made sure that all products had been kept clean after their previous use. For example I made sure that any mascara wands, cotton buds and makeup wipes had been disposed of and that I had used correct etiquette in terms of using my products. This means I had not placed a brush back into the product after using it on a clients face as this would spread bacteria. Then I used couch roll to set up my work station. I made sure my mirrors were clean and the lights were switched on. (This is important as the light from the mirror reflects the lights that would be used on set therefore I was able to tell if the application was correct.)
Health and safety in my assessmentThen I made sure that my hair was tied back. This way it did not get in the way of what I was doing and did not fall all over the model. After this I made sure my clothing was correct, this means I wasn’t wearing an outfit that was too revealing or distracting to the model. After I had set out my kit I made sure that my bags were out of the way, this meant that there was no risk of anyone in the room tripping over them. Then I washed my hands. This is paramount as any bacteria I had collected over the day would then be spread onto the models face if I had not washed my hands.
Health and safety in my assessment.Next I filled out a consultation form for the model. Questions asked would be about the skin tone, the sensitivity of the skin and if the model was allergic to any products. This is important as I may not have been able to use products I was planning to and taking this consultation reveals this before I potentially put the model at risk. Finally I made sure my model was comfortable. This involved moving the chair if they were not in the right position, making sure the models hair was tied up as to not get products in the hair (this could make it greasy), making sure the model had an apron on so that products did not transfer onto their clothes and lastly prepping the skin for the makeup. This involved cleansing, toning, moisturising and priming the face. This is an extremely important step as without taking care of the skin the model could experience break outs and the texture of the skin may not be right for the application of makeup without this.

Details of Miss Havisham look
• For my look for Miss Havisham I have given her an overall look of being very weathered and old. This is going to be achieved by using eyelash glue to give the impression of dry skin, I will also use a grey tone for the skin to give the look of being ill and ghostly. For the hair I have chosen to stick with something that will be easier to achieve continuity wise whilst still fitting with the time period.

Analysis of continuity for Miss Havisham • Do I think I have achieved continuity?Looking at the two sets of images, I believe that the continuity has been quite successful. The overall complexion of Miss Havisham seems to be spot on and the dry skin and slight bleeding are all in the same places, also the eyebrows look to be the same. However one thing that I do notice the most when looking at the continuity of this look is that the age lines are darker on the first attempt and the eyes are much redder in the first set of images. All in all I think the outcome of this was good for a first attempt at having to create a look based on continuity.

Details of Claudia and Mrs Laderman looks. • For my look for Claudia I have decided to keep with something young, as she
is only a teenager. With the hair I have decided to add a touch of innocence to the character by styling her hair in pig tails. Following the horror genre I have decided to keep to a black, grey and red colour palette with the eyes and lips, this giving connotations of blood, danger and darkness. • For my Mrs. Laderman look I have decided to create a half face look. This is
because the back story to Mrs. Laderman is that she might not be all she seems, therefore I have reflected this by having a soft look on one side of the face and a heavier look on the other. With regards to the hair I have decided to keep it simple, and reflect a hairstyle that she may have had when she was younger.
