Creating my flat plan in Photoshop

• To start the process of construction for my double page spread I constructed the flat plan that I had drawn out in Photoshop. By doing this I knew where I was placing everything on my double page spread. This helped speed up the process as the layout was already on the page and I just had to add the contents of the page.

The story headline

• The main headline for my double page spread is the main headline on my front cover expanded. By doing this I was able to describe more about what the contents of my double page was going to be about.

Timeline

• Down the right hand side of my double page spread I have decided that I will do some research into the history of vinyl records and construct a timeline to show readers the history.

Inserting my article

• I have started inserting my article. To do this I started by writing my article in white writing over the black boxes. I did this so that my columns would be the same width and to make sure that the writing doesn’t go outside the boxes.

• Once I had done this I changed the colour of the text from white to black and deleted the black box leaving my with a well laid out article.

By line• I have added a by

line to my article, this is a common convention in all magazines as it allows the reader to know who wrote the article.

Adding images

• I decided that instead of having one large main image that I would have 6 smaller images that take up the same area that one main image would.

• I think that by having 6 smaller images in the order that I have put them in helps create the vibe I am going for with my magazine.

• I used the black box from my flat plan to help me make sure all the images were the same size and level with each other

• I have added a web address and social media tag (Twitter and Instagram) to the bottom corners of my double page spread. I have put them here as a constant reminder through the magazine about online access to updates from my magazine.

Page numbers• The page numbers on

my double page spread are the same style, colour, shape and size as the page numbers on my contents page. This is part of my magazines house style and is consistent throughout the whole magazine.
