• This presentation is linked to the Beacons for Public Engagement project. This was established in 2008, funded by the UK Higher Education funding councils, RCUK and the Wellcome Trust, to support the UK HE sector to embrace public engagement. Find out more here www.publicengagement.ac.uk
• Six ‘beacon’ projects were funded to pilot effective practice, as was a national coordinating centre.
• In May 2010 staff from across the project met in Manchester to share learning, with a particular focus on the importance of reward and recognition in encouraging public engagement, and also to reflect on the challenge of evaluating culture change.
