In today’s lesson let us study the usage of Affect and Effect.

The word “affect” has more than one meaning.a) To produce a change in somebody or something. It doesn’t have any affect on my promotion. Her opinion will not affect my decision.b) The attack of a disease, to make somebody become ill/weak(VN) Apply the ointment on the affected area. PM had an aerial survey of the flood affected districts.c) To pretend to be feeling or thinking something (formal) She affected a calmness she did not feel.

We can use “effect” as a noun or as a verb.

As a noun – it means:

a) a result – This medicine doesn’t have any side effects.What will be the effect of this?

b) possessions – The insurance policy covers all baggage and personal effects.

As a verb it means – to make something happen.

The prisoner effected his escape.
