Computer Network

• Computer Network is a collection of computers interconnected, that allow sharing of resources and information.

LAN and WAN

• Network in small geographical area such as a room, building or a cafeteria is called LAN (Local Area Network)

• Network spread geographically such as in country or across Globe is called WAN (Wide Area Network). Eg. Internet!

Networking Devices

• To set up a computer network, the following equipment should be used:

A powerful computer called a ‘server’ (the main)

Computers provided with a network card

Network cables

A hub to connect all the computers.

Wireless Network

• Presently, it is possible to build a wireless computer network.

• We are grateful to the new generation of network cards and wireless HUBs.

• The performance standard of such a network is based on the principle of transmission of digital waves.
