Kinds of sentence according to Structure
-consists of two or more simple sentences or independent clauses.Examples:
1. Mom just baked an angel food cake, and I can hardly wait to taste it.
2. Ben and I pitched the tent; Bard started the fire and cooked dinner.
COMPOUND SENTENCE
NOTE:In formal writing, compound
sentences require either a comma before and, or, nor, but, yet, so, for, or a semi-colon before however, therefore, nevertheless, otherwise, consequently, etc. if there is no conjunction used between two simple sentences, a semi-colon or a period should be used instead.
COMPOUND-COMPLEX SENTENCE
-consists of two or more independent clauses and one or more subordinate clauses.EXAMPLE:
1. My science project isn’t required until Friday, but I have already turned it in because I finished the work sooner than I had expected.
DIRECTIONS: Label each sentence compound or
compound-complex.
1. Earth has only one moon, but Jupiter has at least fourteen.
2. The hamburger came from Hamburg, Germany, and the frankfurter came from Frankfurt.
3. Scientists are working on the Hamburger, and it may change drastically in the future because it may be made of soybeans or cotton.
4. The French still prefer rare meat, but the Germans eat raw hamburger meat.”
5. Sarah saves five hundred pesos out of each pay check she receives; otherwise, she will have no money to buy birthday presents.
ASSIGNMENT:
Use your imagination to describe what a car of the future will look like. Tell what options or features it will offer. Then identify the kinds of sentences in your paragraph.
