• Community Services initiatives by Access Services
It all started April 2009 with an email from Beth.
.
.
There was a think tank where ideas were discussed- we decided on “Food For Fines” and Mission Australia as the charity.…
In October we got approval – for 1 week
in December.
2009 was a great success- it ran for 2 weeks and 13 boxes of food were collected. The positive response and publicity were overwhelming.
Also in 2009 we decided there was a need for Justice of the Peace Service in the Library
So we considered who were most worthy and
Rosemary and Vicki were appointed.
We covered the supervisor
2010 saw the emergence of the Knit Wits
And the tea room
We knitted blankets for Wrap with Love
In November we delivered 14 completed blankets to the
Warehouse
In 2010 Food For Fines was an outstanding success.
It ran for 3 weeks and almost 2000 items of food were collected.
We fed the homeless in a local shelter
for 2 weeks.
All this enhances the image of UTS as a vibrant part of the community, not only a
centre of learning but also the city university with a social conscience.
