Why are libraries needed?

• Educational – It is a great place for research and studying. Where children improve their reading ability. Where they discover which books they like. Education is for adults and senior citizens too – senior citizens use libraries for education. Students for quiet study.

What can the library do to expand services to

the community?

• Library in a box; which a box of books are borrowed with no

fees or return date is offered to the community. This is a great

idea but needs to be advertised more on the four nations.

• Having youth (or adults) come in to learn and practice the

Alberta learners exam. Where in which they can study the

booklet and follow up by doing the practice test on the

computers. When the individual(s) feel confident enough for

the test the band should support transportation to nearest

location that offers the test and try gain their learners.

• If the library could offer study session or volunteer tutors to the

youth and community with a certain subject and if they’re not

finding the motivation at school. The MCC library should offer

study/tutor lessons for those who struggle with certain

subjects.

Best way to approach and encourage children and youth with the library

services?

Children and youth need to know that reading is a strength.

They need to be encouraged that it’s good for them where they

need to feel like it’s not a school chore. Allow children to be

open with their imagination and creativity and encouraged with

it. At a young age they need to know that reading is going to

take them a long way in their education. If children have poor

grammar or speak difficulties they need to know that they

shouldn’t be discouraged. Children and youth need good

mentors.
