Good morning. I’m Mrs. Juana Dela Cruz, the mother of John Dela Cruz of Grade VI- 4. May I speak with Mr. Mendoza, your principal?

Good morning. Mrs. Dela Cruz. I’m sorry but our principal, Mr. Mendoza, is attending a meeting a the conference hall. Can you wait for him?

What time is she coming back?

I think the meeting will end at 9: 00. Please have a seat.

Thank you but I still have to fetch my son, John. Please tell her that I dropped by.

Yes, I will tell her. Is that all, Ma’am?

Yes, thank you. I’ll return at 10:00.

Goodbye Mrs. Dela Cruz. See you later.

Sentences giving commands may be just one word. The subject is understood to be speaker or you. The pronoun you is the person to whom the command is addressed. Most requests and commands end with a period. Some of these however, are in question form.

May I leave this message for your Mother?Do you mind telling her I called?Could you remind her to return my call tonight?

Command is a sentence that orders someone to do something. It ends with a period (.) or an exclamation mark (!)

Request is a sentence that asks someone to do something. It ends with a period (.) or a question mark (?).
