What is Coastal Landforms?

The coastline is constantly eroding. There are four key types of erosion:

Abrasion- waves transport material which hits off the cliff and gradually wear it away.

Hydraulic Action - as waves approach the coast they trap air and force it into gaps in the cliff, eventually weakening the

rock.

Attrition-waves cause the rocks to crash against each other, breaking them into smaller rounded in places.

Corrosion - salts and acids in seawater dissolve the rocks gradually over thousands of years.

In Addition to all of this their are wind erosions and also weathering.

Headlands and Bays

Headlands are formed out of harder rock.If their are softer rocks called clay

they are affected by erosion the most.
