IntroductionEach kind of hominid

looked different from the next, the first man was more ape-like than all of the other hominids

Hominids have evolved to look less like apes throughout millions of years to look more like modern day humans

Page 3: Chloe_Appearance of early humans

Australopithecus afarensisAustralopithecus afarensis looked more like an ape than a human, with lots of hair and ape-like facial featuresThey stood upright, but more hunchbacked than

modern day humansThey also had opposable thumbs and sharp

canine teeth meant for tearing raw meat that other animals had discarded

These early humans were small in size and light in weight, they were only around 4ft tall and from 50-80 pounds when they were adults

Page 4: Chloe_Appearance of early humans

Homo habilisThese hominids were a bit

larger than Australopithecus afarensis, but still small for hominids

Homo habilis had lots of hair still, but a little more like a modern human

They still looked like apesThey stood upright like

Australopithecus afarensis, but still not fully straight

Had a larger cranium to hold their larger brain

Page 5: Chloe_Appearance of early humans

Homo erectusThe Homo erectus is the first

hominid to fully stand up straightThey have the ability to stand up

straight because pelvis bones were a different shape

These hominids looked like apes still, but have even more human-like features

They are about the same size as modern day humans, maybe a tiny bit smaller

Page 6: Chloe_Appearance of early humans

Homo sapiens NeanderthalensisHomo sapiens Neanderthalensis

were shorter than the Homo erectus, but much stronger

They had short, powerful legs and arms to conserve body heat

Their cranium and brain were larger and less round in shape then modern day humans

These early humans had large, strong, and thick bones

Page 7: Chloe_Appearance of early humans

Homo sapiens Cro-MagnonThe Homo Sapiens Cro-Magnons

were very tall, taller than the Neanderthalensis and modern day humans

These hominids had very little body hair compared to the other early humans

They had a little more than modern day humans

They had smaller craniums than the Neanderthal and modern day hominids

Page 8: Chloe_Appearance of early humans

Homo sapiens sapiensHomo sapiens sapiens are modern

day humans which stand perfectly straight, and gave opposable thumbs

These humans don’t look ape-like and are the most sophisticated looking of all the hominids

They are around 5-6 feet tall and have average weight of 120-140 pounds for women, and 165-185 for men

Page 9: Chloe_Appearance of early humans

ConclusionOverall, early humans got more sophisticated

and less ape-looking as they evolved throughout millions of years

When hominids evolved, they got taller, and got larger brains and craniums
