“If you keep your eye on the big ideas and focus primarily on higher order thinking, there is no reason to eliminate fun from your classroom because of new assessments”(103).

So instead of using multiple intelligences activities as simply fun activities to interest students, they must also include higher order and critical thinking.

The assault on Vimy Ridge took place at 5:30 a.m. on Easter Monday, April 9, 1917. The battle took place in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France during the first World War and for the first time had all four divisions of the Canadian Corps against three divisions of the German sixth army.

Though the victory was executed quickly, there were still 3,598 dead and a total of 10,602 Canadian casualties. The victory is strongly attributed to cautiously arranged and executed assault, as well as extensive training.

The Vimy Ridge Battle

The battle is know today as a turning point in the war and a nationalistic symbol for Canada, representing unity and sacrifice. The winning of the battle of Vimy led other countries to view Canada's troops in high esteem in warfare and their contribution to the World War. It also gave Canada status as not merely a British colony.
