Project Description• A.A. degree in General Studies with focus on two transfer
paths: Psychology and English• 30 courses proposed for development• About 9,000 students in degree each semester, but
courses potentially impact about 25,000• Targeted populations include low-income, first-generation
and minority students
Project Motivation• Desire to access, affordability, and success of students at
MC• Decrease time to degree completion by modeling clear
transfer paths in terms of course selection and sequencing
• Focus on various learning styles while decreasing student costs
• Increasing student engagement
Project Challenges• Finding quality open content• Licensing that is complicated, unclear or inaccurate• Sustainability• Faculty collaboration• Creating optimal schedules for target populations
Project Implementation• Monthly cross-functional team meetings
‒ Focus on academic concerns, student concerns, research efforts and infrastructure needs
‒ ELITE professional development offerings and faculty champion support
‒ Meeting and updates to various constituencies: Administrators, Chairs, Student Council, Faculty Council
Project Results• Greater awareness of OER• Scaling infrastructure• Student cost savings
‒ Estimated z-course savings of $340,000 for Spring 2017
