In the increasing civilization standards of life that we live in now, adolescences

are suffering to work extremely hard to achieve greater accomplishment especially in

the education sector. Nowadays, students have to face extraordinary pressure from

parents and teachers on their studies to live up to their expectations. This is caused

mainly by the change in the education system, parental pressure, acceptance for higher

education is restricted and the fear of young people facing unemployment.

One of the major cause in this matter is the change in education system.

Students are being obliged to excel in their studies and as well as to keep up with their

extra-curricular activities in school. The present education course outline and system

are built in such manner that it covers a huge area of syllabus. It is difficult for the

youngsters to complete the syllabus within a time limit and reach the expectations and

given goals by the teachers.(Anonymous,) Moreover, the government has introduced a

new system where it acquires each student to involve actively in one sport that they

interest the most.(Ismail, 2013) On top of their mental hard work at school, they have to

participate such activities which means it makes them feel exhausted physically and

also with no time left in hand. (Anonymous,)

In addition, parental pressure is also one of the factor contribute to this trend.

(Salmav, 2013) They are one of the most obvious reason which compel the children to

add more time to their studies. It is every parent's dream to hope that their children

would be the best and successful in life. Parents force their kids to study, which they

consider the best for their children. Parents would like their youth to successfully pass

the examinations and eventually attend in higher education such as college and

university in the future. As a result, youth who find themselves in severe competence

with their counterparts, they would try to increase their opportunity by over-studying.

(Anonymous, 2012) They sacrifice their leisure time for working hard on their studies,

trying to fulfill their parents' targets. (Salmav, 2013) This directly affects the achievement

and they have to work very hard to meet all the given goals from the various fields like

academic and extracurricular activities. It is also stated that, "As per the study there is

7% students committed suicide by not bearing the pressure given at school and home

on their studies". (Anonymous,)

Another reason is the number of people who are accepted for higher education is

limited. (Anonymous, 2012) Students need to study really hard to do whatever they can

to endeavor for that objective. Financial restrictions also don’t permit public or private

universities to expand students seats regularly.(Anonymous, 2012) Some unfortunate

families have to make ends meet just so they can save the amount of money for their

children's education fees. Thus, parents tend to expect the child to be independent to

get the scholarship to spare them some relief. Hence, those who had studied for long

hours but the children would eventually break down if the outcome is not as what they

had anticipated even though it is good enough already.

Last but not least, this pressure is caused by the unfounded fears of young

people facing unemployment in the future. We were taught since young that if we do not

study hard now, we would have to face the consequences of being unemployed as we

need to battle with one another for our places in the society. "The Report of the

STATEC (the Luxembourg Office for Statistics and Economic Studies) reveals that the

unemployment rate for young people aged 15 to 29 is about 5 % in Luxembourg".

Sophie Sellier has revealed that, " The survey stresses also the education level of

Page 4: Cause or Effect essay

young people. The more diplomas they have, the better is their chance to find a job

quickly. Nearly a quarter of the young people aged 15 to 29 who have a job, also have a

postsecondary diploma. And yet, when the Minister of Labour, François Biltgen,

presented the Report, he stressed that 55 % of all the new jobs created in Luxembourin

2006 had required a university degree". (Sellier and Mouris,) With this proclamation, it is

crucial for young people to have at least a diploma or a degree to find a job. Hence, this

has added even more apprehension and strain for the students to attain higher

achievement among the strong competitors in order to avoid oneself from getting

unemployed in the future prospect.

In a nutshell, everything has its own remedies, so does this issue. From my

perspective, people should weigh up their thoughts in order to give out efficient

solutions.(Salmav, 2013) Teachers and parents should change their attitudes. There

should be a proper time table and feedback from the students every semester to be

evaluated for. We should always have goals and targets which is promising and

possible. There are many evidences that suggest that the upcoming success of a

person is not solely dependent to university graduation, but this myth still exists among

parents. I think a country’s educational system can deliver crucial information to parents

in this case. Alternatively, more investments shall be made to create more universities

so that the unhealthy competence between people on university entrance gets

eliminated. (Anonymous, 2012) Children should not waste the most significant time of

their life solely on their studies only and regret it later because as the saying goes, "time

waits for no man".
