PROUD TO BE A HUGGER TREE
HUG A ThREE: Thinking Green, Going Clean,
Living Gleam
PROJECT TITLE
Tangcal Lanao del Norte is a Landslide Zone Community. This often happens twice or more a year depending on how often rainy season occurs. This is due to the following malignant diseases:
• Rampant Illegal Logging Act• Drainage Clogging
• Illiteracy on Proper Waste Disposal/Management
• No Ordinance on Environmental Preservation
PROBLEM STATEMENT
COMMUNITY NEEDS
Tangcal Lanao del Norte as any other community needs care, attention, time and effort to cure its viruses. It needs the following remedy to heal its wounded heart:
• Adopt A Fruit Bearing Tree Program• Regular Clean-Up Drive• Educate the community on the Importance of
the Environment• Ordinance for this Project to realize it better• Generate Income for Livelihood
Hug a ThREE is a project for a cause. This aims to:
• Conduct an adopt a fruit bearing tree program for each barangay in the municipality.
• Organize a 3 Generations of Environmental Rangers in the whole municipality.
• Have a local ordinance to conduct an “Environmental Call” annually and a monthly community clean-up drive
OBJECTIVES
Realistically speaking, Illegal Logging is one of the tremendous Environmental Problems that Philippines is facing nowadays. It’s very difficult to eradicate this virus for it has already a built strong foundation . But I believe that there is no such thing as impossible as long as you are determined to make a change. I may not eradicate it in the whole country but at least lessen it by making my community as a starting point. I have to make a difference and the only thing to make that possible is to involve my community. I have to make them realize that their act today may kill themselves tomorrow. Other solutions that I guess may serve best are:
• Tap organizations in the community who I find essential and can contribute to the success of the implementation of the project and coordinate with them(“Speak Up Your Mind”--Dr. Cichy)
• Educate each individual in the community about the importance of the Environment which includes; Clean-Up Drive,Proper Waste Management, Adopt A Fruit Bearing Tree Project as primary income generating for the community(You Are The Change That We’ve Waiting For—Dr. Hamlet)
• Make an ordinance on this project to make it more realistic for the people in the community to follow.
Solution Statement
• Organize a 3 Generations of Environmental Rangers
• Gather 100 People to Plant 200-500 Fruit Bearing Trees• Involve 100 people for the
regular/monthly Clean-Up Drive • Generate Minimum of Php.5,000 after
3-5 years of tree planting• Build a 1 hut for a small cooperative to
utilize the income and increase its profit for a livelihood project
OUTPUTS
If this project will be successfully done this may fulfill the following goals:• Eradicate Soil Erosion and Landslide in
the Community• Develop the power of environmental
sensitivity in each individual in the community• Achieve a green, clean, and cool
community to live in• Livelihood for the Women in the
Community
OUTCOMES
LEARNED FROM: DR. EVELINA CICHY
SPECIFICALLY ABOUT: AMERICAN CULTURAL ORIENTATION• Speaking Up• Time is Money
HOW APPLIED IN MY PROJECT: • Knowing this kind of practices may help me in
orienting and motivating people to speak up on the issues regarding illegal logging in the area and find alternative remedy to solve the issue.
LESSONS
LEARNED FROM: Dr. Susan Russell
SPECIFICALLY ABOUT:
Role of the Youth in Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship• We Are All Responsible For Our Planet• Don’t Wait For The Government To Do Something For
You---- Instead Do Something For Them and For Others---
HOW APPLIED IN MY PROJECT: • This learnings may Educate young ones about their role
in environmental issues and voluntary involve themselves and all other sectors in the community to move forward for a better cause
• Make a difference now for it might be too late to do it tomorrow
LEARNED FROM: Stronghold
SPECIFICALLY ABOUT: • TRUE ESSENCE OF LEADERSHIP, Commitment, Unity,
Teamwork, Faith, Respect, Understanding, Individual Differences,
• Valuing friendship, teamwork, and one another as a whole
HOW APPLIED IN MY PROJECT:
Considering micro things cause those may mean a lot to the success of the project.
Listening to every single idea that will hopefully be raised during the pre, actual and post implementation
Respecting everyone’s beliefs, stand and practices with regards to environmental preservation.
HOW INNOVATIVE IS YOUR PROJECT?
I find this project innovative because this is the first 3 in 1 project that will be implemented in our community. It covers up three major elements which I considered as best ways to save and preserve the gift that we have from Almighty GOD which is the ENVIRONMENT.
TASKS: • Meet Different Organizations that you may coordinate with for the
implementation of the project• Advertise the project itself through radio or any social devices that may
use to reach out if possible all the people in the community• Tap volunteers for the conduct of the project(Students, Co-Teachers)• Have connections with the higher officials that can extend help for the
success of the project• Solicit Funds• Ask DENR for fruit bearing trees

How Do You Ensure Sustainability?Sustainability will hopefully be achieved in this project because of the elected officers (Environmental Rangers) who will conduct a regular monitoring of this project. The officers are the responsible ones to monitor the planted trees and they are also responsible for the monthly Clean- Up Drive in every barangay in the municipality. The Envi Rangers will also conduct an Annual Environmental Celebration where different Environmental Activities will be conducted. The best Foster Parent will also be recognized and there will be a contest for the most clean, organized and creative barangay. Through this the people in the community will surely put in their hearts the importance of taking good care of the environment for they will be often reminded. 3-5 years after the tree planting is the expected year of harvest of the fruits and hopefully the income will be then utilized for a Livelihood Project for the people in the Community. Hopefully, there will be a dialogue with the LGU to make an ordinance about this project to achieve truly the word sustainability.
