What Is A Career?
A career is a person’s lifelong progress through learning and work.
Your career doesn’t start when you leave school, college or university. It has already started.
The skills and knowledge you learn each day at school will prepare you for the work you do in future
What Is Your Career?
If everybody was equally educated, equally intelligent and equally skilled, we would probably all want to do the same or similar jobs.
Fortunately, we are all different and we all have our own aspirations and ambitions in life.
Take a moment
On your own, or in pairs, try to list as many types of career as you can think of.
The next slide will give you some ideas.
Employability
A persons employability is how employable they are. It covers many factors and may change as a person goes through their life.
For example, employability covers;
Education – the level to which a person has been educated Skills – any training a person may have hadAppearance – how a person looks when they have an interviewMotivation – does a person come across a s someone who is willing
to work hardPersonality – whether someone has the right personal attributes to
fit into a companyor a job
What Have We Learnt?
A career begins at school, not just when you leave
It is important for our own well being that we choose a career we are good at and enjoy
To work in the right job we need to be employable
Employability covers many factors such as skills, education, motivation and appearance
