Campion School honours grassroot teachers
Tuesday, September 20, 2011By A Staff Reporter
It was a unique celebration hosted by students of one of the city’s
top schools for teachers of REAP (Reach Education Action
Programme) who teach children residing in slums and villages.
(REAP has 200 such literacy classes covering more than 5,000
children). Around 30 senior teachers from REAP were invited to
Campion School by their Principal Paul Machado on Saturday,
September 17 to celebrate Teachers Day. But for teachers who
teach underprivileged children the date September 5 carries no
particular significance. It is merely another day. Not even the
children being taught know it is Teachers Day. No flowers, no
thank you cards. These made the invitation an even more
wonderful gesture on the part of Campion to honour and felicitate
these teachers who do such a great job of bringing education to the
most deprived children moulding them into responsible citizens of
tomorrow.
“Campion not only opened its doors but also its heart to us
teachers by their warmth and smiles, beautiful welcome speeches by the students, a well designed power point presentation on the
greatness of teachers accompanied by dances, songs, games, prizes, gifts and a good hearty lunch to cap it all. We went home with
a feeling of awe, knowing that their work amidst the poor was recog-nised and appreciated. We are grateful to our Director, Dr.
Trevor Miranda for organising this memorable event,” said one teacher.
