Camera Shots What makes an effective image for a magazine?

What makes an effective image for a magazine?

The image for the magazine has to be appropriate and specific to the magazines gender. The image also has to be sharp and clear in order to attract the readers attention and stand out from other magazines. The background of the image must also allow the main image to stand out and show the focus on the main image.

What are the different camera shots I could use?

The different camera shots I could use are : Long shot, Medium shot, Close up and extreme close-up.

Long Shot

A long shot is a photo that shows the whole persons body.

Long shots are mainly used in magazines when someone is holding and/or with a prop. This shot is mainly used to show the importance of a figure in the shot, for example the image of Florence where she is shown taller than iconic global monuments to show the importance of herself.

I may use this camera shot within my magazine as my model for my magazine will be holding a prop.

Medium Shot

A medium shot shows some part of the subject in more detail while still giving an impression of the whole subject.

The medium shot is effective as it shows the reader who and what the magazine is about and focused on in the most detail whilst still giving an insight into what the magazine also features as a whole.

I will use this type of shot in my magazine as I want to focus the image on my model whilst still giving an insight into what the magazine is about.

Close Up

A close up is a photograph taken at close range or with a long focal-length lens.

These images are effective as it shows the importance of the model to the magazine and attracts the readers attention as you feel close to the subject.

I wont use this shot on my magazine cover as I believe a medium shot is more effective as a cover image – however I do believe I will use this shot within my magazine at some point.

Extreme Close Up

A photograph in which the subject is tightly framed and shown at a relatively large scale.

These images are effective as it shows the importance of the model to the magazine and attracts the readers attention as you feel close to the subject.

I wont use this specific camera shot within my magazine as I believe the medium and close up shots are more effective for my genre of magazine.
