P3-4 Learn about Electricity
The Challenge….
To make the bulb light up
……using the following equipment
1 battery
2 wires
1 bulb
and a bulb holder
We had fun finding out how and where to attach the wires.
There was great excitement when we managed to light the bulb!
Everybody was successful at lighting their bulb, but we
found it tricky keeping the
wires attached.
We replaced the wires with crocodile clips.
These were much easier to connect to the
bulb holder.
We also used 2 batteries
with a battery holder.
We realised that the clips
had to be connected to
the metal parts on the holders.
We learned about conductors
and insulators.
Conductors allow the electricity to flow all the way
around a circuit
… and so the bulb will still
light up.
Insulators stop the electricity flowing around the circuit
so then the bulb will not light up.
We found out that all metals were conductors.
A silver necklace lights up the bulb.
Conductors• tin foil• keys• metal rings• metal spoon
We discovered that all plastics are insulators.
Lego Ruler
cup
Insulators• Wooden Spoon• Dish Cloth• Rubber tyre• Paper
Next we learned how to build different
circuits …
using buzzers
and we made our own switches.
Our final challenge was to
make an electrical number game.
We worked with partners on this task.
First we thought of some
challenging sums.
We used our measuring skills to
make the game.
The questions and answers were
connected at the back with wires.
When the correct answer is matched with a question,
the bulb lights up!
