Objectives of Project

The objectives of this project are as follows:

To introduce basic principles and procedures of construction process through real-life project (experiential learning).

To understand the sequence and coordination of construction at site.

To expose students to construction technology/methods responding to site context.

To allow student to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of construction, material and technology.

To train students to produce manual sketches, drawings and detailing relating to EXISTING construction.

Learning Outcomes of this Project

Produce a complete documentation (pictures, sketches and drawing) and an analysis of construction elements.

Understand and explain construction elements and its components.

Understand current construction technology on local construction sites.

Explain current material and technology in relevance to the present construction industry.

Tasks - Methodology Your task is to select an ongoing construction site which visibly demonstrates most of the subject topics covered in the syllabus. Your selected sites should be medium rise or low rise buildings eg. bungalow, terrace houses or maximum 4-storey building. To identify different types of building elements and its construction process, details and materials. You are to study and record construction of different building elements, which you have learnt in this module. Specifically, you should be able to show and apply your knowledge in the details of the building construction drawing that you are to compile, thereby reflecting your understanding of the construction itself. Document (Visual images, Annotated Sketches and Drawings)

Construction process, methods, materials, site context.

Documentation should be in the form of photos, pictures, sketches, drawings and annotations. Analyse and Explain

Specifications of materials used in construction

Dimensions and sizes of components

Standards of descriptions

Procedures in constructing the components

Construction response to site context (environmental issues related to sustainable development)

Submission Requirement

A3 bound report complete with visuals, sketches and manual drawings inclusive of the detailing and documentation of your project.

Visuals / Photos used in the submission must be clear and well communicated.

Sketches are meant to provide visual documentation and communication. Therefore sketches are required to be neat, clear and annotated.

Manual drawings of all construction elements covered in this syllabus.

Assumptions can be made through references from books / drawings. DO NOT PLAGIARISE. Application must be according to site context.

Softcopy is required to be attached with the hardcopy. Suggested Format of A3 Report/Documentation

Cover page - Names and Student ID numbers should be written clearly with TU Logo Table of Contents Introduction of site Findings and Explanations: Construction activities Construction elements Plants and machineries (no sketches only pictures) Referencing to books and websites (a MUST have)
