THE IMPORTANCE OF
SLEEP AND SLEEPING
FOR HEALTHY MIND AND
BODY
Sleeping is as necessary as the food we
eat, the air we breath and the water we
drink for our health.
The amount of sleep we need changes
according to our age.
Having enough sleep is very important
for our growth and normal function of
the brain, it also helps us to deal with
our daily stress and obligations.
Did you know that our body recovers
and grows the most during the night
(our hair and nails grow faster, our body
fully recovers and our wounds heal
better.)
The lack of sleep refelcts on our
organism from the inside, but you can
also see it on the outside, it can even
lead to skin problems.
One research conducted on a group of
teenagers showed that only 15 % of
teenagers sleep 8 to 8 and half hours
when they go to school.
A lot of teenagers stay up late at night
during the week, they try to make up for
it by staying in their bed until afternoon
during weekends.
Such a sleeping schedule can seriously
damage your biological clock and it can
lead to chronical lack of sleeping which
can then affect our everyday school
activities as well as other activities.
In order to go to bed without problems
it is recommended not to use mobile
phone or a computer at least an hour
before going to bed.
If we sleep long enough, our brain
processes information better, it's easier
to study, we can focus better, solve
problems easier, feel satisfied and
happier and we can also have more
energy.
We often think that afternoon nap is
suitable for younger children, but
everybody needs to rest regardless their
age, as long as there is need for it and
especially if you slept five to six hours
the night before.
Adults need seven to eight hours of
sleep during the night while teenagers
need 8-10 hours.
Lack of sleeping causes sleepiness and
irritability which could bring us to
problems in school and our social life
regarding family, friends and peers'
relations.
Some researches show that 3/4 of
children who don't sleep enough have
bad concentration.
Immediate surroundings also affects our
sleep. We should watch out for the
temperature in the room and proper
illumination of the room we sleep in
( obscure the room and free it of
unecessary furniture and electronic
devices.)
It is recommended to paint the wall in
some relaxing colors like blue or green
and it is better to choose linen made of
natural materials (cotton, bamboo, silk).
