Body Part Art
Ms. Meier
Umm, what?
• Choose a body part (keep it PG!) that is typically not focused on in traditional artwork, making it the “central figure” or “portrait” in your work.
• Ideas:– Eyes, eyeballs -Shoulders– Ears -Hips– Lips -Hair– Hands, fingers -Arms– Feet, toes -Legs
Body Part Art
• Keep your subject matter limited to only one part (avoid whole faces or large portions of the body)
• Use color, size/scale, and repetition (multiple images of the same part) to create visual interest
• Think of what you would like to communicate to the viewer. – How do you want the viewer to feel?– What do you want the viewer to understand?
Any Questions?
• Make a sketch:– Pick a part of the body– Think of an interesting composition. How can you
alter it to make it more interesting to look at?• Size/shape• Color (unusual)• Repetition
– Avoid realism; think of the abstract.
