2. Usability of UBC Library Online

• A special thanks to everyone who participated in the usability testing of the UBC Library homepage

• Thanks to Drs. Cairns, Carlsten & Schreiber

• In total, we had ~20 interviews completed• This information will be used to redesign access

Comment: “…the Library’s website could be more user-friendly, less busy… with fewer options to choose from, eg. Summon vs. catalogue search, scrolling down & search again through same things. Summon is not very useful as its results are too broad and does not capture what you need under author name or title, too many key word searching tools….”

4. BMB Student Librarian Wins NLM Fellowship

I am very pleased to announce that one of our BMB student librarians, Kevin Read, has won one of the coveted four spots in the National Library of Medicine Associate Fellowship programme for 2012-2013. Kevin's success in being selected for this prestigious and highly competitive program is a testament to his outstanding talent and hard work at the UBC Library and in his studies. Kevin will be working on a information research project with me in summer 2012. He works at BMB on Mondays and Thursday evenings…

5. Systematic review on UpToDate

UpToDate is available from VCH-connected computers not at UBC Library

As the principle investigator, Dean is working on a systematic review with internists at the Mayo Clinic about the value of UpToDate in clinical decision-making ~

UpToDate helps physicians to: • access clinical information in different specialties• recognize clinical manifestations of disorders • identify options for diagnosis, management & Rx (e.g.,

efficacy, doses and interactions of drugs) • identify optimal screening & prevention strategies
