HIV / HBV / HCV: 2 Minutes All other organisms listed on label: 3 Minutes TB: 5 Minutes

Bleach 6%

HIV: 5 Minutes HBV / HCV: 10 Minutes Mix with Water: 2 oz. Bleach with 18 oz. water
= 1:10 Bleach solution Solution is effective for no more than 24 hours

Injuries & Exposures
What do you do If you are exposed ?
Wash / Flush affected area immediately / Use alcohol disinfectant (Purell) first if needed & applicable, then soap & water as soon as possible
If you are being seen for an exposure, report to the same receiving hospital as the patient was transported (Aides in the testing procedure)
Notify Supervisor (can be anytime but should be made to assist in reporting and aide in questions i.e. sooner rather than later)
Who Determines Exposures?
A medical professional at the hospital makes those initial determinations
If you are exposed Seek medical attention !!
Exposures to open wounds / needles sticks / puncture wounds are high suspicion areas
Injuries
Must be reported!! (Even if you are making it for notification only) Seek Medical Attention if applicable
For Both Exposures or Injuries If you are given prescriptions, we will issue you a
Prescription Card for payment immediately Follow-up with appropriate medical providers Medical monitoring as needed CIRMA First Report of Injury must be completed
within 24 hours Town Employee Injury Reporting & Witness forms
must be completed
All forms are located electronically and may be filled out and printed on the Desktop computer in the EMS Office
The forms are located in the “EMS Documents” folder
Supervisor may assist in completing these forms
