DESCRIPTION
Sometimes blogs are identified as ancillary tools for a project or unit of study. In this case, the lifespan of the blog is relatively short. Blogs can also be used regularly throughout the year to support common educational goals like concept exploration in a content area or the development of literacy and critical thinking skills. Take a look at the following ideas for how you might use a blog to support learning directly or indirectly. This list is by no means inclusive, and you will certainly have other ideas for how you might integrate a blog into your classroom.

Class Writing JournalConsider using a blog as a tool for housing writing
prompts. Once completed, you might share student
responses or, if you use a site like Class
Blogmeister, students might post their own responses
online.
Math Problem AnalysisStudents could share their solutions to math problems or
any problem on a class blog. Each student could describe
his or her process for solving a particular problem. In this
way, using a blog requires students to think critically
about how they describe the process since they will
publish their thoughts for others to see.
Literature StudyMake student conversations and thoughts about a story
visible by publishing them. Consider how students can
share their insights about discussion questions, character
analysis, and plot analysis by publishing them on the
class literature blog.
Global Current EventHighlight a current global event through text, video, or a
link to a Web-based resource. In addition to providing a
central location where students may view the event
online, students could respond to the event by
commenting on the blog entry or posting. Over time, you'll
have a nice archive of global events.
Topical StudyCreate a space for exploring a particular topic. For
instance, if your class is studying a country throughout
the year, use the blog as a space for housing all that
students are learning about the country.
Vocabulary ExplorationA blog can serve as a place to house examples of
vocabulary in English or in another language. The blog
can allow students the vehicle for sharing examples of the
word or expression used in context.
