What is Sucrose?- The single most abundant pure organic chemical in the
world- Most widely known to people other then chemists. - Sucrose is a disaccharide meaning its made up of 2
sugars, they are: Glucose, and Fructose
- The elements that make up Sucrose are :- Carbon - Hydrogen - Oxygen
What functional groups does Sucrose contain?
Sucrose contains the Acetal functional group. - A carbon ( RED )that
has two other Oxygen's attached
Another functional group dealing with sucrose is hydroxyl.
It helps dissolve organic compounds such as sugar.
What are two functions of Sucrose?- It is used it food for sweetening .
- It can also be used as a preservative when used in sufficient concentrations.
- Plants intake sucrose to transfer them to nonphotosynthetic parts of that plant.
Why would I be a good parent?
-Sucrose is important to humans because it gives off energy. -Helps the human brain function-breaks down into glucose and fructose and is absorbed into the bloodstream to the intestine-First storage molecule produced in all green plants
