Therefore, my next step was to use my mentors school library catalog to find any non-fiction titles that may have been checked out. At the same time, I went ahead and used the other elementary school library catalogs through the Garland Independent School District website. I decided to go through each catalog because my mentor told me each book available in any school library of this particular school district must have two authentic reviews before purchasing. This pointed me in the right direction and I went through forty-seven individual catalogs one at a time in hopes of finding non-fiction Bilingual Biography books. Bilingual Biography Books

The subject for the following book collection is on Bilingual Biography books that have text in both Spanish and English. Books found for this collection were biographies on famous artists, authors, leaders, painters, poets as well as biography books on children who have migrated to the United States from other Latin American countries.

As a bilingual certified elementary teacher, I am an advocate for bilingual students. The audience that will benefit from the following subject collection books is for bilingual elementary students. The purpose of finding bilingual biography books is to give bilingual elementary students the opportunity to use these books for research purposes.

I began my search by browsing my mentors books shelves in her library. She had many fiction titles that were in both Spanish and English but only three titles were relevant to my search. I found a good number of books this way and it also provided authentic reviews. At times it was discouraging when some of the schools had zero to three bilingual biography books available for students. This amazed me because many of the schools in this district have a high population of Hispanic students. I feel that the some particular schools are not servicing bilingual students as well as they could be. However, I understand there could be budget funding issues at work.

After the option of going through the Garland ISD elementary library catalogs, I decided to use the Children’s Literature Collection in order to verify titles, ISBN, prices, and reviews. I also used this tool at the end of my search for extra titles regarding bilingual biography books. I searched the term “Bilingual Biography Books” and scanned through a list of books that would fit into my subject collection.

At the end of my research I began to use EBSCO HOST in order to find authentic reviews for any book lacking reviews from the Garland Independent School District library catalog. With EBSCO HOST, I used the all the available databases such as - Academic Search Complete, GreenFile, eBook collection, ERIC, fuente academica, Library Information Science & Technology Abstracts, MAS Ultra-School Edition, Essay and General Literature Index (H.W. Wilson), Newspaper Source, Primary Search, Professional Development Collection, Teacher Reference Center, Texas Reference Center, TOPICsearch, Book Review Digest Plus (H.W. Wilson).
