Think About Your Experience with NPHC Organizations
NPHC Historically
• Composed of Nine International Greek-Letter fraternities and sororities
• May 10, 1930 at Howard University• “Unanimity of thought and action as far as
possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations.”
NPHC Historically
• Post World War I– Major research institutions/grad chapters
• Post World War II– NPHC Chapters proliferated southern HBCUs– Redefinition of Afr. Am. traditions/cultures
• Post Civil Rights Act of 1964– Movement onto PWIs
History becomes Present-day
• NPHC Nationally…
• NPHC Locally…
So… It’s time to share!
Authentically Connecting
• While NPHC affiliate organizations recognize the social aspect of Greek college life, the primary purpose and focus of member organizations remains community awareness and action through educational, economic, and cultural service activities.

• Be open and honest• Acknowledge social aspects (Step, Stroll, etc.)• Look for organizational commonality• Have conversations about respective
organizations
