Belize

Belize is a country on the eastern coast of Central America.

Population

2014 estimate 340,844

2010 census 324,528

Official language is English, though Belizean Creole (Kriol) and Spanish are also commonly spoken.

Belize has a diverse society, with many cultures and languages.

The Belize flag has been used since September 21, 1981 , on the occasion of Independence . It has two red stripes on top and bottom and a blue background. In the center of the flag is the coat of arms of Belize.

History

Until the arrival of Europeans , it was inhabited by the Maya.

In the middle of the seventeenth century English woodsmen came to shore. The Spaniards had not come to this area .

Belize became independent in 1981 .

Climate

Belize has a tropical climate. Temperatures vary according to elevation.

Monuments

Xunantunich is the name given to the ruins of an ancient city maya located in the territory of Belize , about 50 miles north of Belize City and ten kilometers from the coast of the Caribbean Sea .

Visits a day to the island are common as hiking, diving and bird watching are spectacular. It is a protected area of land and surrounding waters, which acts as a bird sanctuary.

Most of the population is Christian , mainly Catholic (70 %), followed by Anglicans and Protestants.
