Get the most out of the tutorial

1. Access PubMed • Go to the library homepage

(http://library.defiance.edu)

• Click on Databases A – Z

• Scroll down to P

• Click on PubMed (MEDLINE)

2. Follow the directions in the yellow boxes

guide! You can scroll to the top

and search within the help

manual, or look at the table of

contents and jump to sections of

interest.

Explore a bit and then click on the

PubMed logo at the top of the page to

return to the PubMed homepage!

If you are looking for a specific article, the Single

Citation Matcher is what you want to use.

Click on Single Citation Matcher!

Here you will enter information for a specific citation.

Thankfully, you don’t have to know all of this

information – just enter as much as you know. The

more you can enter, the more likely your search is to

bring back the right article right away.

Let’s run a sample

search! In the Journal

search box type in New

England Journal of

Medicine. In the Date

box type in 2008.

These are citations of articles from the 2008 volumes of

NEJM. To limit your search to full-text articles only, click

on the Free Full Text link above. If you accessed PubMed

through the library’s website (as directed at the beginning of

this tutorial), the database will have synced with library

holdings. This allows you to click and access articles from

library subscriptions within PubMed.

You can click on the title of any article to get more

information, including MeSH terms and related citations.

Click on the title of the article by Matuchansky (result #1)

Complete citation information

is given, though it is not

formatted with MLA or any

other citation style.

These links will change depending on who is making

the article available online. You could also see a logo

PubMed, don’t despair! You have other options! Be

sure to save the complete citation information and then

follow the directions on this website for help: Find It!
