BBFC stands for the British Board of Film Classification, and provides age ratings and censorship for films in the UK. There are five main age rating certificates, U (Unrated), PG (Parental Guidance), 12/12A, 15+ and 18+. It is there to protect underage children from unsuitable and even harmful content in films, and takes into account the feedback of what the general public find acceptable to watch at each age category.

What is BBFC?

My production certification is aimed at those aged 15+, particularly targeting from ages 15- 35. This is due to the mature nature of the drama thriller, such as Faith’s miscarriage , and the abusive themes, which is a sensitive topic. Furthermore, I think this target audience will be able to sympathise with the protagonist, which is what I intend to bring out in the audience’s reaction.

Genre: For my film I have chosen a hybrid genre, which incorporates an element of mystery and sensitivity . There will also be detailed content in the film, as the audience will see her face as he strangles Faith and she gasps for air. This is a chilling and unpleasant scene that will not be appropriate for ages below 15.

What is the age certification for my production?

Furthermore, when choosing my age certification, I have taken into account the nature of violence and sensitivity, and the feedback from those surveyed in my questionnaire, which have played part in my decision to give, The Break of Faith, a 15+ rating.
