Page 16: Bandaging & slings confirm

PROCEDUREAnchor bandage at distal end of body part

with two circular turns.Make spiral turns and each turn overlapping

the previous one by two – third the width of the bandage.

Terminate the bandage with two circular turns and secure the end of bandage.

FIGURE-OF- EIGHT BANDAGE

It is effective for use around joints such as knee, elbow, ankle and wrist.

Page 18: Bandaging & slings confirm

PROCEDUREAnchor bandage at the centre of joint.Ascend obliquely around upper half of

circular turn above joint followed by turn that descent obliquely below joint.

Continue in same manner, overlapping half of previous turn.

Terminate the bandage above the joint and secure the end.

SLINGS Slings are used to support or to limit

movement of the upper limb ,in cases of injury or inflammation .

TYPES OF SLINGLarge Arm Sling

Collar and Cuff Sling

Triangular Sling

Page 21: Bandaging & slings confirm

USES OF SLINGS

To support injured arms.

To prevent the pull by upper limb to chest, Shoulder and neck ,injuries .

Page 22: Bandaging & slings confirm

COLLAR AND CUFF SLING

Used to support the wrist in cases of upper arm injury.

Page 23: Bandaging & slings confirm

Application of cuff & collar sling

Make a clove hitch round the wrist with the triangular bandage.

To make a clove hitch, take a narrow bandage and make a loop.

Bend the elbow and place the forearm over the chest with fingers touching the opposite shoulder.

Pass the clove hitch round the wrist.

Tie the ends of the triangular bandage above the collar bone.

Page 24: Bandaging & slings confirm

APPLYING THE ARM SLING

Put one end of the spread triangular bandage over the uninjured shoulder with the point on the injured side.

Pass the end around the neck and bring it over the injured shoulder. The other end will , now, be hanging down over the chest.

Page 25: Bandaging & slings confirm

APPLYING THE ARM SLING

Place the forearm horizontally across the chest and the hanging end up. The forearm is now covered by the bandage.

Tie the two ends in such a way that the forearm is horizontally or slightlytilted upwards and theknot is placed in the pit, above the collar bone

Page 26: Bandaging & slings confirm

APPLYING THE ARM SLING

Tuck the part of sling, which is loose at the elbow, behind the elbow and bring the fold to the front and pin it up to the front of the bandage.

The nails of all the fingers should be exposed.
