What is Advertising?• Advertising is a PROCESS; it uses a range of

MEDIA to communicate as part of a campaign. • Print Advertisements are still one very powerful

and effective means for advertisers to reach its audience.

• For any company trying to get their product or service out in print format, the task is ever more challenging and difficult.

Campaign?- An advertising campaign is therefore a series of advertisement messages that share a single idea and theme which make up an integrated marketing communication (IMC). - Advertising campaigns appear in different media across a specific time frame.

- An advertising campaign must have a champion theme as it sets the tone for the individual advertisements.

Page 11: B324

Branding?• - A brand is therefore different from a

campaign. • - A brand is the ‘identity’ of the product

and targets its audience through the aspirational ideals it offers to the audience.

• - This is why people buy things – because they have confidence in the brand to help them achieve something that may be missing in their lives.

• - Adverts create this brand.

Page 12: B324

Branding?• Brand Slogan - a public way of identifying

the brand for consumers - often associated with a logo.

• Brand Values – what does it stand for/against?

• Brand Appearance - What does it look/sound/taste like?

Page 13: B324

- How is this a campaign?

- What is the advertiser trying to tell us about Heinz Ketchup (what is it’s identity/values).
